Missing Munich ...

A friend of a friend is currently in Munich, Germany. I have been receiving e-mails and SMS from him for a week now regarding Munich. And that brought back a lot of memories ...

I lived in Munich for 2 years ... not really straight 2 years - twice of my stay were for 6 months, some were for 3 months ... but would all in all, I'd say a total of two years in a 3 year span.

Munich was my first trip abroad ... I was on my first job, a few months out of the University, and my company already asked me to go to Germany for a 6-month delegation ... Others would probably find it daunting ... But I remember I was sooooo excited ... It didn't matter that I don't know anybody there nor do I speak the language ... Back then, for me, that was one big adventure!

First few days were full of bloopers ... but when I started to pick up the language (I had to learn it, no choice! thanks to the language school in St Martinstrasse), it became a lot easier ...

What were my fondest memories of Munich? Hmmmm ... there were so many that my brain is getting dizzy trying to recall it all ...

• Oktoberfest : the parade, the Bavarian clothes, the bretzen, the bier, the prosts!
• Shopping : Marienplatz, Karlsplatz, Bennetton, Kaufhof, H&M, Zara, Joop, IKEA
  
• Grocery : DM, Plus, Aldi, Wal-Mart (still open that time), Penny Markt, Tengelmann
  
• Restaurants : Fai Chi, Kam Yi, Bella Italia, Bobolovsky, Tijuana, Al Pacino
• Food : Schweine Haxen, Apfelschorle
• people watching along Schwabing while drinking coffee
• touring the different German towns
  
• easy access to the other European countries (Italy, France, Spain, Austria)
• friends I've met and kept up to now

I tried the services of the Parksquare Branch. What I like is that they were able to accommodate me at a short notice. The Clinic Hours is also perfect - they are open as late as 8pm and even during Saturdays.

However, I felt that the dentist which assisted me just went about doing her job. It was so "clinical". She cleaned the teeth, did some check-up and that was it. I was trying to ask some questions but she was answering hurriedly. Perhaps it was because she already saw that there was already a next customer. Comparing it to the "customer service" of Dental Care Asia (see one of my other posts on label "health and dental"), it will really fare poorly ... And another thing, they allow other customers to enter the premises where I'm having treatment. I felt that they should give privacy when there is an on-going treatment. I mean, here they are - their hands & apparatus on my open mouth and they are still entertaining other customers. It was so embarrassing! :(
