I lived in Munich for 2 years ... not really straight 2 years - twice of my stay were for 6 months, some were for 3 months ... but would all in all, I'd say a total of two years in a 3 year span.
Munich was my first trip abroad ... I was on my first job, a few months out of the University, and my company already asked me to go to Germany for a 6-month delegation ... Others would probably find it daunting ... But I remember I was sooooo excited ... It didn't matter that I don't know anybody there nor do I speak the language ... Back then, for me, that was one big adventure!
First few days were full of bloopers ... but when I started to pick up the language (I had to learn it, no choice! thanks to the language school in St Martinstrasse), it became a lot easier ...
What were my fondest memories of Munich? Hmmmm ... there were so many that my brain is getting dizzy trying to recall it all ...
- Oktoberfest : the parade, the Bavarian clothes, the bretzen, the bier, the prosts!
- Shopping : Marienplatz, Karlsplatz, Bennetton, Kaufhof, H&M, Zara, Joop, IKEA
- Grocery : DM, Plus, Aldi, Wal-Mart (still open that time), Penny Markt, Tengelmann
- Restaurants : Fai Chi, Kam Yi, Bella Italia, Bobolovsky, Tijuana, Al Pacino
- Food : Schweine Haxen, Apfelschorle
- people watching along Schwabing while drinking coffee
- touring the different German towns
- easy access to the other European countries (Italy, France, Spain, Austria)
- friends I've met and kept up to now
- my first serious relationship ... but not with a German ... with a Brazilian ;-)
- the winter, the snow (up to minus 16C), the thermal clothes
- weekend market in Fuerstenried West
- the hotels where I stayed for months & months - Apart Hotel in Bruedermuhlstrasse and City Appartement in Marstrasse
- the U-Bahn, the S-Bahn, the Deutsche Bahn, ICE
- Travel Agency Bennek in Isartor for the trips to Venice
I long to be back ... it's been 6 years since I was last there ... I miss the friends ... and I miss Munich ... yes, Munich itself!
